Kurdistan parliament approves Kamal Atrushi as minister of natural resources

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Kurdistan Parliament on Wednesday voted to approve Kamal Atrushi as Minister of Natural Resources.

The Kurdistan parliament held an extraordinary session to vote on Kamal Abdulhamid Abdulrahman who was nominated by the prime minister for the position of the ministry of natural resources.

The parliament voted 81 to 20 to confirm the nomination of Atrushi to the ministry of natural resources.

As many as 45 lawmakers from the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), 17 from the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), seven from Change Movement, 11 from the minorities and one from Sardam faction voted in favor of Atrushi.

Prime Minister Masrour Barzani selected Atrushi to fill the long-vacant position of the ministry of natural resources on Sunday.

The post has been held by the prime minister in the interim since July 2019, when the ninth cabinet was sworn in.
