SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Kurdish parties and Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani met in Erbil on Thursday, according to the Esta Media Network reporter.

The Kurdish parties and Barzani were scheduled to hold the meeting at 12 p.m. at the Kurdistan Region presidency’s building, but the meeting started earlier.

The Region’s president has sent invitation letters to leaders of the Kurdish parties to participate in a meeting with him, the reporter said.

Leaders from the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), Change Movement (Gorran), Kurdistan Justice Group (KJG), Kurdistan Islamic Union, Kurdistan Socialist Democratic Party, and Kurdistan Communist Party as well as representatives of Turkmens and Christians will participate in the meeting.

In March, Barzani called on the political parties to put an end to “harmful rivalries and disagreements among political parties in the country.”

“All of us, political parties and communities, needs to be tolerant as we work together for a better Kurdistan and to preserve its freedom and democratic principles,” Barzani said in a statement on the occasion of Newroz.

“Therefore, I will invite all parties to a joint meeting at the Kurdistan Region Presidency after Nawroz celebrations,” he added.
