SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Directorate of Asayish (security) said on Wednesday the incident occurred at Tasluja checkpoint in west of Sulaimani was a “misunderstanding” between Asayish forces and a unit of Peshmerga’s commando forces.
Clashes erupted between Asayish forces and the commando’s unit after the Peshmerga passed by the checkpoint on Wednesday morning, the directorate of Asayish in Sulaimani said in a statement.
The members of the Peshmerga’s commando attacked the security forces with knives at the checkpoint, killing one and wounding five others.
“The clashes ended with efforts from all sides and a committee was formed to investigate the incident,” the directorate of Asayish said.
“Those involved in the incident have been taken to custody under the order of a judge.”
Esta Media Network reporter said the member of the Asayish forces died in Shar hospital in Sulaimani after he succumbed to his injury.
