PUK co-leader says violations of law not allowed under any circumstances

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) Co-President Bafel Talabani said on Sunday that violations of law are not allowed under any circumstances.

Talabani alongside Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani and Deputy Minister of Interior Chato Salih held a meeting with security officials in Sulaimani. 

The other officials included Head of Kurdistan Region’s Asayish (security) Agency Khasraw Gull, Director of Asayish in Sulaimani Hiwa Ahmed and Police Chief Aso Sheikh Taha, according to a statement released by Talabani’s office.

The PUK co-leader stressed on the rule of law and the independence of judicial power during the meeting, the statement read.

“It is not allowed [for anyone] to violate law under any justification and to damage the life of people,” Talabani said.

“We will take all legal measures and bring violators and criminals to justice because tranquility and protection of people’s life are red line for the PUK and we won’t allow anybody to transgress it,” he added.

“Bafel Talabani stressed that no one is above law and we will severely punish those who carry out subversive acts. We have promised Sulaimani and its residents that their life will be protected and live in tranquil circumstances,” the statement said.
