SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani met with head of Hashid al-Shaabi Falih al-Fayyadh and Chief of Staff of Iraqi Army Abdulamir Yaralla in Erbil on Sunday.
The two sides discussed the latest developments in Iraq and the region, the KRG said in a statement.
Both sides stressed the importance of joint coordination to confront Islamic State (ISIS) militants, particularly in the disputed areas, the statement read.
They also stressed the importance of resolving issues between the KRG and the federal government on the basis of Iraqi constitution, according to the statement.
Earlier on Sunday, Fayyadh and Yaralla met Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) leader Masoud Barzani. They discussed the situation of the disputed areas.
Fayyadh’s visit to the Region came a few days after six rockets fired from an area in Nineveh province fell in an area near the airport. The Region’s ministry of interior said Erbil airport was the target.
The rockets were launched from Bartila between the villages of Sheikh Amir and Tarjila in Nineveh province, which is under the jurisdiction of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) 30th Brigade, the ministry added.
The Kurdistan Region’s Counter-Terrorism Service blamed the attack on PMF militias.
The Nineveh Operations Command of Hashid al-Shaabi said in a statement that it was surprised by what it called “hasty reactions” to the rocket attack in Erbil.
It further said the area where the rockets were launched is considered to be “an inhabited void area” located within a triangle surrounded by the Iraqi military, PMF and Peshmerga forces.
