Human Rights Center: There are about 4 million Iraqi refugees in the world

SULAIMANI – (ESTA) The head of Strategic Center for Human Rights in Iraq declare of the Iraqi refugees in the world and said, “More than 757,000 Iraqis have applied for asylum in Europe in the past eight years.”.

Fazel Gharawi, the head of the Strategic Center for Human Rights in Iraq said, “The United Nations has approved June 20 as World Refugee Day to remind the world of the importance of protecting refugees.”.

“There are about four million Iraqi refugees around the world, mainly in the United States, Germany, Britain, European countries and some Arab countries,” he said.

Also, he mentioned, “According to the statistics released by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) for 2022-2023, 15,214 Iraqi refugees are registered in Syria, 61,993 in Jordan and more than 10,000 in Turkey Except for about 132,000 refugees whose cases have not been resolved and 6,500 refugees in Lebanon.”

“Between 2023 and 2015, the number of people over the age of 18 seeking asylum in Europe reached 757,323, while Iraq hosted about 260,000 Syrian refugees,” Gharawi said.

“Iraq has faced five waves of refugees abroad due to war, economic and security situation, and called on the government to provide the necessities for their return and intensify its diplomatic efforts to support them in the countries where they are stationed,” he said.
