SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Kurdistan Region’s authorities will meet this week to approve the draft budget bill for 2021, according to the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).
The KRG Council of Ministers held a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Thursday to discuss efforts to prepare the Region’s budget bill for 2021.
Both ministers of finance and planning, Awat Sheikh Janab and Dara Rashid, submitted reports on the bill and required steps forward, said the KRG.
“The Council of Ministers approved a timeline for the 2021 budget bill,” the KRG said in a statement, adding that the Supreme Economic Council will meet this week to approve the first draft.
Following the meeting, KRG Spokesman Jotiar Adil said the draft budget bill was prepared in cooperation with the ministries and that all the ministries had shown their opinion about it.
“The KRG believes this bill … is to provide transparency, equality for the people,” Adil said in a press conference.
Authorities did not provide any further details about the draft budget bill.
The Kurdistan Region has not prepared its budget since 2014, when Baghdad cut off the Region’s share of the federal budget, which Erbil has been heavily reliant on to pay its civil servants and implement service projects.
