DPM: Iraq Responsible for Sale and Export of Kurdistan Region Oil, KRG Not Involved

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Kurdistan Region Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani held a meeting with the Italian Ambassador to Iraq, Maurizio Greganti, on Tuesday in Erbil.

During the meeting, Talabani stressed the importance of implementing the budget law and ensuring that the citizens of the Kurdistan Region receive their financial entitlements, according to a post on his Facebook official page.

He also emphasized the need for a comprehensive and long-term agreement to resolve all issues between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad.

Regarding the sale and export of the Kurdistan Regoin oil, Talabani clarified that it’s currently the responsibility of the federal government, and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has no involvement in it.

“At present, the sale and export of oil from the Kurdistan Region are under the jurisdiction of the federal government, and the Kurdistan Regional Government holds no responsibility in this matter,” he said.

In the meantime, DPM Talabani also emphasized the importance of approving the federal oil and gas law in accordance with the constitution and through an agreement between the two governments to resolve the issue.

The meeting also focused on the reform process in the Ministry of Peshmerga. Talabani highlighted the importance of continuing this process to create a strong and well-trained national force, desired by both the Kurdish people and their allies.
