SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Dhi Qar Criminal Court on Wednesday issued a death sentence for a convicted individual who was found guilty of murdering a university professor.
The verdict was announced after a thorough investigation and trial process, the state media (INA) reported.
The identity of the convict and the victim have not been disclosed.
The use of the death penalty in Iraq has been controversial, with some human rights organizations criticizing the country’s judicial system for its lack of due process and fair trials.
