Kurdistan Commemorates Anniversary of Mam Jalal Talabani’s Passing

Mam Jalal Talabani, was a prominent Kurdish political leader and statesman. He was born on November 12, 1933, in Kurdistan and passed away on October 3, 2017. Talabani played a significant role in Kurdish politics and the broader political landscape of Iraq and the Middle East.

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — As the anniversary of the passing of Mam Jalal Talabani approaches, the people of Kurdistan are once again preparing to honor the memory and legacy of this iconic Kurdish leader.

The Kurdish community is preparing to honor the memory of the late President Jalal Talabani as the anniversary of his passing approaches.

This year, the commemoration will be held in Sulaimani, Baghdad, and Najaf as well, with a special screening of a short film about President Talabani’s remarkable life in Sulaimani on October 10.

Mam Jalal Talabani, a true symbol of the Kurdish nation’s pride, was the first Iraqi Kurdish president and served as the Secretary General of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK).

His deteriorating health conditions led to his transfer to Germany on December 17, 2012.  He passed away on October 3, 2017, in Germany.

Mam Jalal left an indelible mark on the Kurdish nation, and his contributions to the Kurdish struggle for autonomy and self-determination continue to inspire generations.

His death in 2017 marked the end of an era in Kurdish politics, but his ideas and efforts live on in the ongoing pursuit of Kurdish rights and self-governance.

Each year, on October 3rd, the Kurdistan Region and Iraq and Kurdish communities around the world come together to remember and pay tribute to this remarkable statesman.
