PUK President meets with US Ambassador in Baghdad

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) President Bafel Talabani received Alina L. Romanowski, the US Ambassador to Iraq, in Baghdad on Wednesday.

During the meeting, the latest political, economic, and security developments and the current disputes between Erbil and Baghdad, according to a press release.

The pair also stressed resolving the issues through constitutional and political means and meeting the demands of all sides to maintain the stability of the area.

In the meantime, Talabani laid emphasis on his party’s keenness to resolve Erbil-Baghdad issues, calling for removing the people’s livelihood from the political conflicts.

“The people’s livelihood and the constitutional entitlements should not be tied with the political issue,” Talabani told the US Ambassador.

“The people’s lives are far more important and we will take any steps necessary to end this situation,” he added.

Regarding the security situation in the area, Talabani added “We should all act responsibly.”

“There will be no stability unless we overcome the challenges,” he continued.

Talabani also called for consensus on national issues, adding “Our strength heavily relies on our unity.”
