PUK President says reforms within Peshmerga Ministry should be fair

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) President Bafel Talabani in Baghdad met with the outgoing commander of anti-ISIS Operation Inherent Resolve, Maj. Gen. Matthew McFarlane, on Saturday night, discussing the Peshmerga reforms.

In the meeting, Talabani commended the Commander for the role that he played during his mission in Iraq and Syria, especially in the Erbil-Baghdad military cooperation and anti-ISIS activities.

The pair also discussed the security situation and the reforms within the Kurdistan Region’s Peshmerga Ministry.

Talabani reaffirmed his support for the reforms and underscored his party’s willingness to unify the Peshmerga forces, according to his words.

“The PUK is supporting the reorganization of the Peshmerga and it wants the establishment of a national solid force for the Kurdistan,” he said.

Talabani also emphasized that the reforms within the Peshmerga Ministry should be fair and far from personal interest.

He further noted that “cooperation and joint work between the security forces are the key factors to maintain the stability of the area.”
