PUK President, US Ambassador to Iraq meet in Baghdad

SULAIMANI (ESTA) —  Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) President Bafel Talabani received the US Ambassador to Iraq, Alina L. Romanowski, in Baghdad on Saturday.

During a meeting, the general situation of the country and enduring dialogues to overcome the problems and pass the obstacles were discussed, the readout of the meeting released by Talabani’s office read.

In the meantime, PUK’s Talabani pointed out election issues in the Kurdistan Region and the outstanding issues between Erbil and Baghdad, including sending the Region’s financial entitlements, according to the readout.

“The PUK’s efforts aim to hold a timely pure election, we want the election to be a reason for unity and developing democracy rather than political break up,” Talabani told the US diplomat.

“Our people should not be sacrificed for political conflicts,” he said. “The constitution must be the foundation for resolving the problems,” he added.

Talabani also reaffirmed that his party’s efforts will be continued until a lasting positive solution for the Erbil-Baghdad issues.
