SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Kurdistan Region Security Service and the Commando forces on Friday announced that they had carried out an extensive anti-terror operation in the disputed-Kirkuk province.
The operation was launched as early as Friday’s pre-dawn hours in eastern Kirkuk, according to a joint statement released following the operation.
It also added that the operation aimed at rooting out the remnants of militants of the Islamic State (ISIS) terror group in the area and destroying their hideouts.
It further reaffirmed that the anti-terror operation would continue to restore stability to the area and eliminate the terrorists’ remnants, especially in the disputed areas between the Kurdish and Iraqi forces that suffer from a security vacuum.
