SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Today marked the seventh anniversary of the assassination of young Kurdish journalist Widat Hussien in the Badinan area, Kurdistan Region.
Hussien worked as a reporter for the Kurdistan Worker’s Party (PKK) affiliated Roj News Agency Since June 2016.
On August 13, 2016, he was kidnapped in the Duhok province by two unknown vehicles in the middle of the day.
Two hours later, Hussein was found in one of the hospitals of Duhok. He was seriously wounded and subjected to brutal torture.
Hussein immediately succumbed to his wounds in the hospital and couldn’t speak a single word.
Among his colleagues, Hussien is renowned as the voice of freedom in the Badian area of the Kurdistan Region.
Today marked seven years since that vicious crime. No perpetrators were ever arrested. They have remained unknown.
Hussien’s Roj News blames the ruling Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) for the assassination of the young journalist because he “refused to cooperate with traitors and spies and did not meet the demands of the killers,” according to a report on Friday.
