SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) President Bafel Talabani on Wednesday received the outgoing European Union Ambassador to Iraq, Ville Varjola.
Varjola paid a farewell visit to Talabani in the Kurdistan Region, capital, Erbil, upon completion of his term in office.
In the meeting, Talabani commended the Varjola, as well as the European Union for supporting Iraq and the Region in the fields of politics, economy, security, and humanity.
He further pointed out that the European Union played a key role in Iraq’s stability and in addressing the issues, wishing all success to the Ambassador in his next endeavors.
In the meantime, the two sides discussed the political situation of Iraq and the Region and stressed efforts to resolve the issues and implement the budget law.
The meeting also witnessed an emphasis on the constitution as the foundation to resolve the issues.
Discussions between Talabani and Varjola also included the succeeding reform process and implementing the agenda of the government.
Meanwhile, PUK’s Talabani underscored that the people’s livelihood should not be tied to political competition.
“Committing to providing the financial entitlements is one of our duties,” Talabani told the EU Ambassador.
Talabani also reaffirmed that their efforts continue to lead the Kurdistan Region to stability and prosperity.
