Kurdistan decides to mark Saturdays as day off for public schools

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Kurdistan Region on Sunday decided to mark Saturdays as a day off for public schools in the next academic year.

Education Ministry Alan Hama Saeed said that in the academic year of 2023-2024, schools will have an additional day off every Saturday in addition to Fridays.

“If it was necessary, Saturdays will be dedicated to schools’ festivals and activities,” Saeed said in a press conference.

According to the official calendar, which is released by the Kurdistan Regional Government (KGR), the new academic year is set to begin on Sep.13.

“The total days which students are set to attend class in the next academic year will be no less than 170 days,” Saeed added.
