SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani on Thursday called for coordination between Erbil and Baghdad to hold Kurdistan parliamentary election.
Earlier yesterday, the Deputy Prime Minister received a senior US delegation led by Ambassador Alina L. Romanowski, his office said in a statement.
During the meeting, the Deputy Prime Minister thanked the Ambassador for the recent meeting she carried out in Sulaimani City with civil society organizations.
He also hoped that the US embassy would offer further support to develop the civil society bodies in the Kurdistan Region, according to the statement.
He further called on the US as well as the international community to support civil society organizations across the country not only in the big cities for equal development.
In the meantime, Talabani and the US delegation discussed the internal political situation of the Kurdistan Region.
They stressed that the disagreements must be resolved through dialogue.
The statement added that Talabani expressed concerns over continuing the political disagreements which marked repercussions on the people’s lives and undermined the Kurdistan Region’s position in Baghdad.
Regarding the forthcoming parliamentary elections of the Kurdistan Region, Talabani called for coordination to hold the election soon enough.
He also called on the US as well as Coalition states to offer support and play a role to bring the conflicting parties together.
The Kurdish official also discussed the federal budget bill with the delegation which is currently under voting in the Iraqi parliament, calling the legislators to take into account the interest of all Iraqi people during the voting to the bill.
