Deputy Prime Minister warns off Kurdistan’s political, economic situation

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Unhealthy competition, as well as reckless polices have jeopardized the future of the Kurdistan Region, Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani on Monday said.

Earlier today, the Deputy Prime Minister received the Swedish Ambassador to Iraq, Jessica Svärdström, his office said in a statement.

The pair discussed the internal disagreements in the Kurdistan Region. They agreed that the political parties should take lessons from past disagreements, and expedite efforts to address them, according to the statement,

In the meantime, the Deputy Prime Minister warned off the current situation of the Kurdistan Region, saying “Neither the political situation nor the economy is good.”

“We should all responsibly take steps for the sake of the interests of our people and address the disagreements,” He said.

“Most of the problems are either personal or partisan.”

“Reckless policies have further divided the Kurdish house and jeopardized the Kurdistan Region,” He continued.

Regarding the forthcoming parliamentary election of the Kurdistan Region, Talabani added that they have always wanted to hold elections on time as long as it’s a pure and fair process.

He called on political parties to relaunch talks on the elections, according to the statements.

Speaking on Erbil-Baghdad relationships Talabani stressed that Kurdistan will be powerful in Baghdad as long as the internal disagreements are resolved.
