SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) President Bafel Talabani on Sunday received the father of Martyr Akam Omar, the Commander of a Kurdish elite force, Kurdistan Commandos.
The military convoy of Commander Akam hit an IED blast in Graminan’s Zenana area in the midst of an anti-terror operation against the remnants of the Islamic State (ISIS) in October last year.
As a result, Commander Akam was seriously injured and admitted to the hospital for nearly two months. In December, he succumbed to his injuries in Germany from wounds sustained from the IED blast.
“You are the exemplar of heroism and struggle for our land,” Talabani told martyr commander Akam’s father, according to a statement.
“Marytr Akam has made history, his heroism to protect Kurdistan will be remembered,” He added. “Smashing the terrorists certifies this fact.”
For his part, Martyr Commander Akam’s father extended words of gratitude to Talabani and affirmed to be the continuer of Akam’s path.
