SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Kirkuk volunteer teachers on Thursday held a protest outside the city’s education directorate, calling for either contract or permanent employment as employment is lacking in the city.

Teachers who are unpaid workers, performing a voluntary service in the education process, held a protest earlier today in the city of Kirkuk.

Esta Media Network reporter on the ground said that Kirkuk volunteer teachers have repetitively staged protests for employment, adding, all previous rallies were fruitless.

“We have held at least fourteen similar protests for over a year and a half for this purpose,” said Mohammed, one of the volunteer teachers in the protest.

A total of 1000 teachers are working as volunteers. Some of them have ten years of service, according to Mohammed’s words.

“The education directorate has previously offered a semi-promise to the teachers who work as volunteers to address their demand, however, it did not turn into action,” He added.
