SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Kurdistan Region’s Counter-Terrorism Forces (CTG) on Tuesday announced that it had arrested wanted a suspect in Kalar southeast of Sulaimani province.

The suspect was arrested as a result of a joint operation between the CTG and the Iraqi Counter-Terrorism Service (ICTS), a handout released by the CTG said.

The suspect was handed to the judiciary for prosecution, the handout added.

The CTG forces are playing an extensive and vital role in the region to eliminate the outlaws and eradicate terrorism in collaboration with its partners in the Global Coalition forces, and peers in Iraq.

The CTG also has strong ties with the Kurdish-led Counter-Terrorism Units of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), better known as (YAT).

Earlier on Tuesday, The CTG and YAT conducted a joint operation in collaboration with the Global Coalition, dismantling an active cell of the so-called Islamic State (ISIS) terror group in Dier Ezzor in eastern Syria.

“The operation resulted in arresting two terrorists, who were responsible for the killings and assassinations against military forces and the region’s dignitaries, in addition to smuggling the terrorist operatives,” SDF said.

“Several weapons, ammunition, and communication devices were also confiscated during the operation,” it added.

Islamic State, which declared a caliphate straddling parts of Syria and Iraq in 2014, has lost all territory that was under its control in 2019.

However, the group continues to wage a low-level insurgency in both countries.
