Coalition UAV crashes outside of Kirkuk due to ‘mechanical failure’

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — An Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) belonging to the US-led Coalition Forces on Saturday crashed outside of Kirkuk.

The incident occurred in the morning hours in south of Kirkuk, where the drone “experienced a mechanical failure” and crashed, a statement released by the Coalition read.

It also added that the Iraqi security forces (ISF) quickly secured the crash site, while Coalition service members cleared the area with a controlled detonation.

“There were no injuries and no damage to civilian infrastructure,” the statement said.
