SULAIMANI (ESTA) — A ministerial delegation from the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has made a visit to the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) headquarters in the city of Erbil on Monday and met with the Deputy Prime Minister.

The KRG delegation at the PUK politburo headquarters held talks with Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani earlier this morning to persuade him to return to his office and rejoin the cabinet meetings, Esta has learned.

Among those who were included in the KRG delegation were the Minister of Endowment and Religious Affairs, Reconstruction Minister, and Minister of Anfal and Martyrs Affairs.

The Deputy Prime Minister who also leads the PUK ministerial team has boycotted his office at the KRG and stopped to attend in cabinet meetings since October last year.

The PUK ministerial team has taken the same stance since then due to mounting tensions with the rival Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP).

The PUK and KDP relations have seen critical tensions in the past months.

The PUK attribute the reason to the KRG led by the KDP’s Masrour Barzani, blaming Barzani for withholding the Sulaimani province budget and rejecting sending the financial allocations.

Moreover, The PUK and KDP have been at loggerheads over several additional issues related to the Kurdistan Region including amendments to the election law.
