SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iraqi security agencies on Sunday arrested a leader of the so-called Islamic State (ISIS) in Nineveh province.
The state-run news agency (INA) reported that four ISIS terrorists including a leader have been arrested by the security agencies and were handed to the judiciary.
The terrorists have participated in the ISIS offensives in Iraq since the very initial, INA said citing a statement from the Ministry of Interior.
ISIS was declared territorially defeated in Iraq back in 2017 following massive blows by the Kurdish Peshmerga forces, Iraqi security forces, and Iran-backed militias with the support of the Global anti-ISIS Coalition.
However, some of the ISIS members are still roaming in the region, and it now uses sleeper cells to wage hit-and-run attacks and abduct the locals in the areas that are disputed by the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and Iraq.
