SULAIMANI (ESTA) — US Ambassador to Iraq Alina L. Romanowski met with Kurdistan Region Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani in Baghdad.

The Ambassador discussed with the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Deputy Prime Minister issues related to combating terrorism including relations with Baghdad, according to a tweet on Tuesday.

“Productive meeting with @Kurdistan Regional Government DPM Qubad Talabani @qubadjt to discuss U.S. priorities in the #IKR – including Peshmerga reform, defeating #ISIS & cooperation with the @IraqiGovt on oil and gas,” the Ambassador tweeted.

The two officials’ meeting coincided with the latest security development in the Kurdistan Region, where an apparent Turkish drone strike targeted the vicinity of Sulaimani International Airport last Friday which resulted in no human or material damages.

The drone attack was widely condemned for putting civilians at risk and breaching Iraq’s sovereignty.

The strike was carried out while the Commander-in-chief of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), Mazloum Abdi, was on a visit to the airport, meeting with his counterparts in the Global Coalition forces and ruling Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) Counter-Terrorism Units.
