SULAIMANI (ESTA) — A detainee who is wanted by authorities in four provinces has escaped from a police detention center in Chamchamal west of Sulaimani, a police spokesman said on Wednesday.

Head of press office at the Directorate of Police in Sulaimani Sarkawt Ahmed said investigations had started to find out how the detainee had escaped on Tuesday night.

“Those who were reckless would be brought to justice,” Ahmed told Esta Media Network.

A security source from Chamchamal said earlier on Wednesday that the detainee is wanted by authorities in four provinces in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.

“The inmate was held in solitary confinement for seven months in the directorate of Asayish [security] directorate, but he was transferred to the directorate of police at their request,” the source told Esta Media Network.

“The inmate escaped in military uniform last night,” the source said. “He is facing nearly 20 lawsuits including murder crime.”
