SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) President Bafel Talabani on Wednesday extended his warmest congratulation and expressed support to all women as the Kurdistan Region marked International Women’s Day.
“On international women’s day, we commemorate all brave and fearless women who had struggled for equality and enforcing human rights and played effective roles in advancing society,” Talabani said in a statement.
“Kurdish women were always played leading roles in the various fields including the political and social events and have had considerable readiness in different societal aspects,” he added.
Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani also congratulated women of the Region and world, saying we need a just and sovereign society and “It’s only possible when our women are empowered.”
He also expressed support for women in the Kurdistan Region.
International Women’s Day is celebrated on March 8 every year across the world. In some countries, it is considered a public holiday. In others, it is a day of protest; and for most, it is a day that celebrates womanhood.
