Today marks the ninth anniversary of Commander Sherko Fatih’s martyrdom

SULAIMANI – (ESTA) Today marks the ninth anniversary of the martyrdom of Commander Sherko Fatih Shuani, who was martyred in the confrontation with the enemies of Kurdistan along with several other Peshmergas.

Commander Sherko Fatih Shuani was born in 1969 in Mawat district. He joined the PUK in 1984 and became a peshmerga with his father three years later.

In 1996, he was awarded the Heroism Award by President Mam Jalal and then appointed in charge of training and inspection in the Kirkuk Command. In early 2000, he graduated from the Qalachualan Military College.

In 2003, he was appointed commander of the 10th Brigade in Kirkuk. In 2010, he was appointed commander of the 1st Brigade and a member of the Kirkuk Security Committee.

After the fighting in Mosul and the threat to Kirkuk, martyr Commander Sherko played a major role in protecting the city and was seriously wounded on July 17, 2014.

On December 30, 2015, Sherko was martyred in a clash with several other Peshmergas in order to defend the Kurdistan territory.
