Six teenage inmates attempt escape in Erbil prison

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — A prison break attempt was reported in Erbil reform prison late Sunday night by six teenage inmates, the director of the prison, Ihsan Abdurrahman confirmed the report on Monday, two had managed, according to a security source who asked not to be named. 

Last night, six teenage inmates who hold Syrian nationalities attempted to escape inside the Erbil reform prison for Women and adolescents, Abdurrahman told Esta Media Network.

“The inmates who attempted to escape were indicted for stealing. They had attempted mass escape but failed,” Abdurrahman said.

Abdurrahman also stated that he is currently at the incident site inside the prison, overseeing an investigation committee into the incident.

A security source with the condition of anonymity separately told Esta that two of the inmates had managed to escape the prison in the attempt.

“One of the inmates who had managed to escape has been rearrested in the Shawre area of Erbil, meanwhile, the other escaped inmate’s location is still unknown,” the source said.
