PUK has complete faith in real partnership to serve people: President

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) President Bafel Talabani said his party has complete faith in real partnership to serve the people and strength the Kurdistan Region entity.  

The PUK President received French Consul-General in Erbil Olivier Decottignies on Monday, according to a statement from his office.

In a meeting the two sides discussed the latest political developments and the recent meeting of the political parties that earlier took place in Baghdad and Dukan’s meeting of the Kurdish political parties, the statement read.

The meeting stressed developing the relations as well as the continuity of “national” discussions for the sake of resolving the issues and stepping in the direction of stability and harmony among the parties, the office in the statement added.

“Dukan’s meeting of the Kurdish political parties has proved the fact that we are with unity and harmony within the Kurdish parties, holding responsibility in this sensitive stage,” Talabani said during the meeting.

A while back, in late November the Kurdistan Region political parties had carried out a meeting on the top level following an invitation made by the PUK. It invited all political parties to meet at Sulaimani’s Dukan resort.

The meeting was initiated by the PUK President, aiming to discuss the issue of Kurdish unity. Later Talabani’s office confirmed that the meeting concluded after 5 hours with the participation of 17 political parties except for the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) which rejected to join.

Talabani also added that the PUK “has complete faith in real partnership, seeking to reach a national project for management and serve our people which seeing itself in strengthen the Kurdistan Region entity.”

Apart from this, Talabani with the French diplomat touched upon the recent summit meeting of Iraq’s State Administration Coalition that took place in the Iraqi capital on November, 29.

Back then, Talabani in Baghdad hosted top Iraqi Sunni as well as Shiite leaders in Mam Jalal Palace which was also attended by Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al Sudani and Parliamentary Speaker Mohammed al Halbousi. They met to discuss the political situation.

“The meeting was an important step towards resolving the issues between the Region and Baghdad and other political problems in Iraq. Fortunately, we achieved this goal at Mam Jalal Palace and reached the conclusion that discussions and agreements should be made on the basis of the constitution,” said Talabani regarding the Iraqi coalition meeting.

“The meeting emphasized the support of the forces and parties to succeed and implement the agenda of the new government, establish justice, and confront corruption,” Talabani elaborated.
