SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The section of intensive care (ICU) at the public pediatric hospital in Sulaimani has suspended their work for a month, compelling the ill children to visit private hospitals, while also risking many lives, said a Director On Tuesday.

Jamal Ahmad Rashid’s Pediatric Hospital in Sulaimani has suspended its operations in the section of the ICU, according to Director of the hospital Pshdar Abdullah.

He added that the section has been closed because the government has suspended the contract of the dedicated health workers who work in the section, numbering 18.

“The government has suspended their contracts, and, as a result, they have left their works,” said Abdullah regarding the health workers who have boycotted working in the ICU of the hospital.

“The ICU section has been paralyzed in the pediatric hospital, every day, as many as children have no choice but to move to the private hospitals instead,” he added.

The situation has also resulted in risking too many children’s lives, particularly those who cannot provide the expense at the private hospitals, according to Abdullah’s words.

“Government is paralyzing the public sector in health and serving the private one,” he continued.

It’s been two years since Sulaiamni is grappling with health crises in the public hospitals as the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has not shown a serious stance to tackle it, according to officials of Sulaimani province.

Sulaimani Health Directorate suffers from a lack of medicine as well as medical equipment and so many other issues.

Moreover, on Sunday a new crisis has initiated in the health sector of the province as health officials said that the ambulances have been out of service for days to due the government’s failure to provide them with gasoline.

As a result, ambulances are only available for certain emergency cases, the official told Esta Media Network.

The Kurdistan Region Ministry of Health has repeatedly pledged to resolve the issues but so far the crisis continues and keeps growing, engulfing all public hospitals.

The province officials have repeatedly warned of the risky effect of the ongoing health crisis, renewing warnings of deterioration of the situation to the extent that threats the locals’ lives.
