Erbil drone attack was minor operation, Iran’s FM spokesman says

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman said on Monday that the recent drone attack on Erbil was a minor operation and hit the target accurately, Iranian state media reported.

Speaking in his weekly press conference Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said in a statement, that Erbil’s drone strike was a small operation that precisely hit the target.

“No Comment”  was the literal answer of the spokesman regarding Iran’s involvement in the attack, according to IRNA.

“Targeting Mossad’s headquarter in Erbil was only a minor operation,” and, “We give Israel the response in its place and not in the third country,” Khatibzadeh said as IRNA reported.

He further added that we advise our Iraqi fellows not to allow its territory to be used as a base in order to target Iran.

Late on Wednesday, a bomb-laden drone hit the Erbil-Primam highway in the Kurdistan Region, three civilians were wounded and dozens of vehicles were damaged, officials of the region confirmed.

Following the attack, The Kurdistan Region Security Council on Thursday had held ‘Hezbollah’ accountable in a statement that said “The drone was bound to Erbil by Hezbollah militias in the border of ‘Pirde’ subdistrict, Kirkuk province,”.

Meanwhile, on Thursday an Iranian news agency said that two Senior Mossad commanders are likely to be killed in Erbil’s drone attack on Wednesday night, Mehr News reported.

Iran has formally blamed the Kurdistan Region several times for hosting the Israeli Intelligence agency in the Kurdistan Region’s territory.

On March 13, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) had carried out a missile attack on Erbil

(IRGC) had claimed the responsibility for the attack and said, they had launched the attack against Israeli “strategic centers” in the city.

But the officials in the Region have repeatedly rejected such claims regarding the presence of any Israeli entity in the region and calling upon it as baseless.
