SULAIMANI (ESTA) — A senior police official was shot dead in Erbil’s Bnaslawa sub-district on Friday, police said.
48-year-old lieutenant Assad Rauf Ahmed was killed in a shooting incident in the sub-district after he returned from Friday’s Muslim prayer, said Erbil police in a statement.
The victim used to be an officer at the Kurdistan Region department of oil and gas police, it added in the statement, and died immediately after he has been shot.
The victim’s body has been transferred to forensic medicine, and Erbil police with the Security forces have initiated investigations into the incident, according to the statement.
No suspects have been detained so far over the incident.
