SULAIMANI (ESTA) — U.S. and UNAMI separately in a statement Monday condemned the fresh Iranian attacks on the Kurdistan Region, targeting Kurdish opposition bases earlier today.

In the morning hours, Iranian drones and missiles once again targeted Kurdish opposition bases in the Region, with the latest reports saying at least two were killed and ten others wounded.

Semi-official Iran’s Fars News agency said the Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) had been behind the attack, which it said targeted “terrorist groups” with missiles and drones.

“The U.S. strongly condemns the Iranian drone and missile attack on the Iraqi Kurdistan Region today,” it said.

“U.S. calls on Iran to stop attacking its neighbor and the people of Iraq. We stand with the Iraqi Government’s leaders in Baghdad and the IKR and condemn these violations of Iraqi sovereignty,” it added.

Meanwhile, the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) has condemned the attack separately in another statement.

“We condemn renewed Iranian missile and drone attacks on KR, which violate Iraqi sovereignty.” And “Iraq should not be used as an arena to settle scores and its territorial integrity must be respected. Dialogue between Iraq and Iran over mutual security concerns is the only way forward.”

Iran has repeatedly attacked Kurdish opposition bases in the Kurdistan Region, blaming the opposition militants for inciting the ongoing unrest which has gripped the country since the death of Kurdish woman Mahsa Amini on September 16.

At least 13 people were killed and over 50 injured back in September this year during similar events for which IRGC officially claimed responsibility.
