Kurdistan Region opposition MP mysteriously vanishes from political stage: MP

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Member of the Kurdistan Region Parliament Kazim Faruq mysteriously fell ill and vanished from the political stage, an MP Wednesday said. 

Speaking about Faruq’s case Ali Hama Salih member of the Parliament in a press conference told reporters that it’s been a long while since his [Faruq’s] sudden disappearance from parliamentary work.

“Faruq has dreadfully fallen ill in a mysterious manner and vanished from the political scene,” Salih said.

“It’s been a very long while since we heard no news from him, I have personally tried to reach him several times via phone calls but he is not in Kurdistan,” Salih added.

The family of Faruq, including his party, rejected to comment on the case, he is in a hospital outside of the Kurdistan Region, according to Salih’s words.

In origin, Faruq was a medic and used to be the incumbent chairman of an opposition party in the Kurdistan Region parliament before he fell ill.

Moreover, he has been labeled as an anti-government hardliner among people, but even his opposition party rejected to investigate the case.

Recently, rumors circulated on social media that Faruq has died but his family refuted the claims, adding no more specifications.

“It’s is quite a complicated case, I don’t know why his party rejects to comment,” Ali continued, and he further called for investigations from the parliament.

In the meantime, the General Leader of the Iraqi Kurdistan Islamic Movement Eirfan Ali Abdul Aziz expressed concerns over Faruq’s case, saying he is currently in unstable health condition, praying for his recovery.

“Faruq was a prominent advocater of the people’s rights, he had a righteous presence in the field, we pray for his speedy recovery,” read a post on the official Facebook page of the Iraqi Kurdistan Islamic Movement.

However, Abdul Aziz did not specify where Faruq is hospitalized, providing no further details.
