Sulaimani Traffic grants driving licenses to hearing-impaired

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Sulaimani Traffic Directorate intends to grant driving licenses to the hearing-impaired, an official on Thursday told Esta Media Network.

The medical committee of the Directorate will soon discuss that matter in order to decide whether they should grant driving licenses to deaf people or not, Director of the license Department Shilan Osman said.

“One of the conditions to get a driving license, the applicant must be reviewed by the health committee, if the person is found out to be in a good shape, they will be able to apply for a driving license,” she said.

Speaking about the hearing-impaired she noted that the matter is up to the medical committee.

“If any hearing-impaired passed the medical committee assessments then they can apply to get the incense, however, if they failed to pass or were rejected by the committee they will not be able to apply for it,” she added.

It’s conditional that any person who seeks to get a driving license must take both practical and theoretical tests, therefore it’s necessary to have the ability to hear stuff, according to Osman’s words.

According to local reports, there are 8,000 hearing-impaired people in the Kurdistan Region, with the vast majority in Erbil.
