KRG Prime Minister Masrour Barzani (L) greets Dutch Premier Mark Rutte in The Hague, Netherlands, November 9, 2020.

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani met with his Dutch counterpart Mark Rutte in The Hague on Monday during his official visit to Europe.

The prime minister leading a government delegation began an official European tour earlier on Monday to meet with officials in several countries in Europe, as part of the KRG’s roadmap to diversify its economy and attract foreign investment.

Barzani and Rutte discussed investment in the Kurdistan Region’s agriculture sector during their meeting, the KRG premier said in a tweet.

They also explored further cooperation on security and migration, according to Barzani.

“The Netherlands is a close friend and partner of Kurdistan,” he tweeted.

“The Netherlands and the Kurdish Autonomous Region of Iraq have a good working relationship in many areas. In my meeting with Prime Minister Barzani just now, we discussed topics such as security in the region, migration and stepping up bilateral cooperation in agriculture,” Rutte said in a separate tweet.

The KRG said in a statement earlier on Monday that Barzani would discuss with European officials the benefits of increased trade with the Kurdistan Region and to strengthen diplomatic ties.
