Father shot his 15-year-old daughter dead in Kifri district – reporter

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — A father in Sulamani’s Kifri district shot his 15-year-old daughter dead on Monday over a family-related issue, Esta reporter said.

Iman Ahmad Shkur, 15, was shot dead by his father in hours of the mid-day, Esta reporter in Garmian said, while also adding that the suspect fled following the incident.

“The father shot his daughter dead over a family related-issue, the victim was lived with his mother since they were divorced,” but “the father attempted to persuade Shkur to live with him, however, he shot his daughter dead,” eyewitnesses around the vicinity of the incident told the reporter.

Police have yet to confirm the details with no comments on the suspect’s status.

Investigations are underway by the police, and the victim’s body will be sent to Kalar’s forensic medicine, according to the reporter’s words.

Family or social related-issue in the Kurdistan Region are the common cause for prompting homicide acts in which in most cases females are the main victim.

Violence against women has increased recently in the Kurdistan Region. Cases of femicide continue to reoccur in the region despite condemnation and calls for putting an end to the killing.

At least 25 women were murdered in the Kurdistan Region in 2020, according to the General Directorate to Combat Violence Against Women.
