SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Bafel Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), in the Iraqi capital on Monday chaired the first meeting of the Politburo in Baghdad since late leader Mam Jalal’s farewell.
Talabani who is in the capital, chaired an ordinary meeting of the PUK politburo, discussing the Iraqi political process and the constitutional entitlements of the Kurdish people.
Discussions also touched upon the newly elected Iraqi President, Latif Rashid, as president of Iraq, who was freshly elected by the legislators on Thursday.
“Rashid is one of the senior strugglers of the PUK since its foundation,” a press release from Talabani’s office said regarding the meeting.
“In addition to referring to PUK’s success in this crucial stage, Talabani stressed the implementation of the desires and constitutional rights of our people in the new Iraqi government which Prime Minister-designate Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani is tasked with the formation of the new government,” it said.
Another part of the meeting was dedicated to the necessity of bolstering the political and organizational presence of the PUK in Baghdad, the press release said.
It also likened Baghdad to the “frontline” of the Kurdish democratic struggle, “in this regard, the required decision has been made,” it added.
Moreover, it marked the first meeting of the PUK politburo in Baghdad since late leader Mam Jalal’s farewell, the former Secretary-General of the PUK who died on October 3, 2017, in Germany.
