Iraq logs 1,855 new COVID-19 cases, 26 deaths

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iraq recorded 1,855 new coronavirus cases and 26 deaths on Friday, said the ministry of health.

In a statement, the ministry said it had registered 442 new infections in Baghdad, 340 in Kirkuk, 307 in Nineveh, 131 in Diyala, 125 in Saladin and 102 in Sulaimani.

The ministry further said there were 78 cases in Erbil, 56 in Duhok, 48 in Babil, 42 in Anbar, 40 in Dhi Qar, 35 in Maysan, 34 in Najaf, 28 in Wasit, 15 in Karbala, 12 in Basra and 10 in Muthanna.

As many as 1,909 more patients had recovered from COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, the health ministry added.

Iraq’s total number of infections reached 560,622, of which 489,772 recovered and 12,387 died, according to the ministry’s figures.

Earlier on Friday, the Kurdistan Region’s health ministry said it had logged 236 new coronavirus cases, 8 deaths and 387 recoveries.

So far, the Kurdistan Region has recorded 97,820 cases, with 3,203 deaths and 61,590 recoveries, the health ministry stated.
