Party intervention prevents Badinan political prisoners to be released: observer

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — According to a Human Rights observer on Saturday, the Badinan prisoners are being prevented to set free due to intervention by a political party in their case.

Badinan Prisoners political prisoners who are on a hunger strike for more than a month, human right observer, as well as representative of the prisoners Ayhan Saeed in a message directed to the public, said, “There is a flagrant intervention by a political party.”

Saeed expressed deep concerns about the administration of Erbil prison saying their treatment with the prisoners is “quite suspicious.”

“We are very suspicious about the way that the prison’s administration deal with the Badinan prisoners,” adding “We are suspicions that there is plotting for the biological assassination of the prisoners” Saeed quoted.

A Group of journalists and activists are being held inside Erbil’s prison, allegedly charged with undermining the Kurdistan Region’s national security. However, some of them are in jail even without receiving a trial.

The detainees known as Badinan prisoners, in present they are suffering inside prison after they went on hunger strike due to their deprivation of legal conditional-release right from prison for more than a month since July.

“The legal conditional-release right was being manipulated by the general prosecutor, there were attempts by a political party to intervene, and strip us from that right” the prisoners in a statement said.

The Ministry of Social Affairs formed a trilateral committee from the independent board of human rights and the administration as well as prisons affairs to oversee the Badinan detainee’s situation but there are a lot of barriers and under different illogical pretexts the process to investigate has been halted several times, according to Saeed’s word’s.

Saeed also urged all sides to let the lawyers see the prisoners, he said that even international organizations have been prevented to visit them including the Kurdistan Region Parliament committee of Human Rights.

“The Badian prisoners shall be released immediately in accordance to all laws, what is happing now is political hate and breaking the dignity of law and courts,  it is the duty of all sides to take a stance” Saeed continued.
