PUK President reiterates his party’s commitment to maintaining pillars of democracy

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) President Bafel Talabani on Thursday reiterated his party’s commitment to maintaining the pillars of democracy in the Kurdistan Region, particularly to hold a timely election.

“PUK is a force committed to maintaining the pillars of democracy,” Talabani said.

“We support holding a pure election,” He said. “ The election should be held in the frame of a convenient law that embodies justice and responds to all parties’ desire,” He added.

Talabani’s words came amid a meeting in the Kurdistan Region Capital, Erbil, with Italian Consul Michele Camerota, at the PUK politburo headquarters, according to a statement released by his office.

Regarding the three-year federal budget bill which has been recently passed by the legislators of the Iraqi parliament, Talabani noted that “We believe that execution of the law as it is, will provide the Kurds with their own rights and financial entitlements.”

“People’s livelihood will no longer be used as an instrument for political infighting,” Talabani said.

In the meantime, Talabani extended his condolences to the Italian diplomat over  the death of former prime minister of Italy, Silvio Berlusconi, who died at last Monday at age 86.
