SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iraq’s supreme Judicial Council on Tuesday suspended its works after the supporters of powerful Iraqi Shiite Cleric Muqtada al-Sadr gathered, pushing to enter the highest Judicial authority building.
Iraq’s supreme Judicial Council suspended the works following amass in front of the building of the highest judicial authority in the country, held by the supporters of Sadr in Baghdad, renewing the call for dissolving of the Iraqi parliament and ending corruption, according to Iraqi media.
“The government should take responsibility for these unconstitutional and illegal behaviors,” The supreme council in a statement said.
Esta Media Network reporter said Kirkuk’s court suspended the works as well following the Supreme Judicial Council statement, adding, that the building was evacuated.
Earlier, Shia cleric Muqtada al-Sadr called for the dissolution of parliament, and constitutional amendments. He had given the judiciary a week’s deadline to dissolve the legislature.
However, the Iraqi supreme Judicial Council rejected Sadr’s call and refused to disband the Iraqi parliament in a statement, saying it does not have authority.
The deadlock between Sadr and his rivals has left Iraq without a government for a record time in the post-Saddam Hussein era.
