SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The deputy commander of the Syrian Democratic forces was killed in a Turkish drone strike in the northeast of Syria on Friday.

The SDF officially confirmed on Twitter that its deputy commander Salwa Yusuk along with two fellow female fighters were killed in a Turkish drone strike targeting their vehicle near Qamishli, Syria, on July 22, 2022.

“Partners must make greater efforts to stop violations”, and “We will avenge,” General Commander of SDF Mazloum Abdi said on his Twitter account fowling the confirmation of Yusuk killing.

“Targeting SDF undermines war against ISIS” Abdi added.

Salwa Yuskuk was widely known as Jiyan Afrin, she was one of the veteran fighters of SDF and fought against the Islamic State terrorists in Syria.

Turkey has launched three military incursions into the Kurdish hold area in the northeast of Syria since 2016, saying its operations are to eradicate terrorism, targeting Kurdish groups and people’s defense forces (YPG).
