SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Following his arrival to the Iraqi capital Baghdad late on Tuesday, the President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) Bafel Talabani made several surprising meetings with top Iraqi leaders as well as numerous officials on Thursday, almost occupied the eye of Iraq’s media outlets as talks continue over the formation of the new government.
Amid the efforts and talks regarding the formation of a new Iraq government which has been postponed for nearly nine-month, Talabani’s non-stop meeting connectively continues with top officials in Iraq to bring a decisive result and end the country’s political deadlock.
Unconsent along with disagreement between the Iraqi political parties has led the country into an unimaginable, longest political stalemate in regards to the formation of the new cabinet after the latest early elections in Iraq which has been held in October 2021.
Since then, Iraq is almost trapped inside the longest political impasses due to political disputes, in particular, after the Iraqi parliament had failed three times in a row to elect the new President for the country as well as elect a Prime Minister.
However, attempts are intensified to put an end to Iraq’s status-quo and escape it from the ongoing political deadlock. The President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) has almost occupied the media’s eyes recently by holding talks with most of the Iraqi political parties and officials from the government even high-ranking diplomats.
Talabani is currently among those political figures who expected to bring the parties closer together and bring a decisive settlement with what so-called ‘consensus’ as he keeps mentioning it in his official statements.
On Thursday, inside former Iraq’s President (Mam Jalal) Palace, Talabani carried out several meetings, firstly he received Iraq’s President Barham Salih accompanied by Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi, in a statement his office said, the latest efforts towards the formation of government were discussed.
“It importantly spoke the role of government about retaining efforts to improve citizens living conditions and succeeding the reform process,” it said.
Shortly after, Talabani received U.S. ambassador to Iraq Alina L Romanowski, in the same location. Unifying efforts in favor of government formation were illustrated as his media office announced.
“Our efforts are continuing to reach a consensus, also establish a new government with the participation of all political forces,” Talabani told Romanowski according to his media office.
In the meantime, on the same day, in a meeting attended by a member of PUK’s politburo Rzgar Haji Hama along with Karim Khan Bradosti, Talabani met the head of Al-Nasr Coalition Haidar al-Abadi. And a few moments after he received leader of the Islamic virtue Party Abukarar Faraji.
“We need former Iraq President Mam Jalal’s perspective of politics, we are sure that the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) continue with this path” this is the quote of Head of Iraq’s National Wisdom Movement Ammar al-Hakim that told Talabani in Baghdad amid after he paid a visit to al-Hakim during his uninterrupted meetings.
