Chlorine gas cylinder explosion in southern Iraq wounds 320 people

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Di Dhi Qar Governorate in southern Iraq witnessed an explosion inside a water booster pump station, and caused the hospitalization of 320 people, according to the city’s police on Sunday. 

Police in Dhi Qar said, inside one of the water booster pump stations in the north of the city, a chlorine gas cylinder blew up, in the result, 320 people were received by hospitals due to suffering from panting respiration.

“The cylinder was outdated as well as high-temperature levels were the main cause of the blast,” The city’s Police said.

Meanwhile, Dhi Qar governor Mohammed Ghazi has stressed “Those who acted negligently and caused the incident will face prosecution and expelled from their official positions”.

In the meantime another likely incident took place in Sulaiamni yesterday, gas leakage inside one of the private business shops (Kastana) cafe and lounge was detected in the city’s downtown, causing a blast in the early morning of Sunday, and five people were wounded at least, according to authorities.
