PYD elects Saleh Muslim and Asia Abdullah as co-chairs of party

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Democratic Union Party (PYD) elected “Saleh Muslim and Asia Abdullah” as co-chairs of the party on Monday in al-Hasakah, northeast Syria.

Under the slogan “In the spirit of the people’s revolutionary war, we will defeat the occupation and build a democratic Syria”, the ninth conference of the Democratic Union Party, PYD, has been held.

In the presence of 700 delegates of the party’s members, offices, and representations in northern and eastern Syria, Kurdistan, and Europe, Saleh Muslim and Asya Abdullah” won the confidence of the two conferences, as a co-chair of the Democratic Union Party, said Hawar News Agency (ANHA).

The election of new co-chairs of the Party is going on simultaneously with northern Syria’s unstable situation, and the possible military incursion of Turkey.

Founded in 2003 as the Syrian branch of the Kurdistan Worker’s Party (PKK), the PYD joined the Kurdish Patriotic Movement in May 2011, following the Syrian uprising.

The Party formed Kurdish National Council in October 2011. Since July 2011, it has played a limited role as a founding member of the National Coordination Body for Democratic Change and has joined the PKK opposition body known as the People’s Council of Western Kurdistan, which was founded on December 16, 2011.
