Turkey’s aggression with consent of Iraq, Kurdistan: KIU leader

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Kurdistan Islamic Union (KIU) leader Salahadin Bahadin said on Saturday Turkey carries out its aggression with the consent of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.

“Turkey’s aggression is carried out with knowledge and consent of the Kurdistan Region and Iraq,” Bahadin said during a press conference following his visit to Baghdad.

Turkey has launched cross-border operations against suspected positions of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in the Kurdistan Region in the past months.

In April, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Baghdad and Erbil supported Turkey’s operation against the PKK in the Region.

“I thank the central government in Iraq and the regional administration for their support to our fight against terror,” Erdogan said.

Despite Erdogan’s comments, Iraqi officials have condemned and rejected Turkish operations in the country, which they say violate Iraq’s sovereignty.
