SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iraqi lawmakers will work to summon the country’s foreign minister and the Turkish ambassador over Turkey’s continued attacks on Iraq and Kurdistan, head of Badr bloc at the Iraqi parliament told Esta Media Network on Tuesday.

Despite condemnations by Iraq, Turkey continues to carry out air strikes and cross-border operations against the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in the Kurdistan Region.

Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said last month that Baghdad and Erbil supported the latest Turkish operation against the PKK in Kurdistan. The federal government denied Erdogan’s claims through the foreign ministry.

Mahdi Taqi Amerli, head of Badr bloc at the Iraqi Council of Representatives, said Turkish attacks on the country showed Iraq’s “weakness”.

“We will not allow Iran and Turkey to carry out attacks on Iraq and the Region,” he told Esta Media Network.

“We will summon the Iraqi foreign minister and the Turkish ambassador at the Iraqi Council of Representatives and we will protest against [Turkish] aggression,” he said.

“The state is weak. There are disputes among the parties … and have neglected the issue. We have to have a stance against the violations. We must put the disputes aside for the sake of protecting the country’s sovereignty.”

The Iraqi lawmaker further said the government should set limits for the aggression.

“Attacks on soil are a red line.”

Dozens of civilians have been killed and wounded in Turkey’s attacks on the areas in the Kurdistan Region. On Monday 26, Turkish air strikes on Zewa village in Bamarni sub-district in northeast of Duhok killed two children who went on a picnic with their families.
